Use and Care

Enhancing the grip of your new yoga mats before initial use is just as easy as keeping them fresh and germ-free afterwards – if you follow these simple tips for preparation, use and care.

The sticky mats (SPEZIAL, EXTRA, SAFRAN and SUKHA)

Our mat types SPEZIAL, EXTRA, SAFRAN and SUKHA are ready to use when you receive them. Nevertheless, we recommend machine-washing your mats with a small amount of gentle detergent before initial use. This will remove possible film residue left by the manufacturer and enhance the grip.

Important: Make sure to choose a gentle cycle with cool water (40°C maximum). Do not use the spin cycle. Do not tumble dry.

After washing, hang your mats up or lay them flat to to air dry. Please avoid folding or using the mats until they are completely dry. Rolling your mats up with a towel and squeezing out excess water before hanging them up will speed up the drying process.

To keep your mats clean, the SPEZIAL, EXTRA, SAFRAN and SUKHA should be sprayed with a sanitizing spray (or a mild detergent) and wiped clean with a cloth after every practice.

In addition to using a sanitizing spray (or a mild detergent) after every practice, we recommend tossing the mats in the washing machine on a regular basis.

The KURMA mats (KURMA Black, KURMA Color and KURMA Lite)

The KURMA mats are also ready to use when you receive them. For a non-slippery initial usage, the light film from manufacturing should be washed off by spraying the mats with a a sanitizing spray (or a mild detergent), and wiping them down with a wet cloth.

Also, in order for the KURMA mats to reach their optimal grip, they need to be broken in. You will see: The more you use your KURMA mats, the better the grip becomes.

Thanks to their unique closed cell structure, the KURMA mats will not absorb moisture, sweat or bacteria, meaning they never require deep cleaning. Therefore, please do not even think about putting your KURMA mats in the washing machine – a spritz of sanitizing spray/mild detergent and a cleaning cloth will do the trick instead.

The KURMA Grip mats (KURMA Black Grip, KURMA Grip and KURMA Grip Lite)

Before using the KURMA Grip mats for the first time, the light film from manufacturing should be washed off by spraying the mats with a sanitizing spray (or a mild detergent), and wiping them down with a wet cloth.
